I wanted to become somebody.
They said I had to become somebody.
As if being me wasn’t good enough.
Become somebody, they said.
Somebody worthwhile to others.
Somebody that others are jealous of.
Somebody comparable to your parents’ friends’ children.
But you know what, just become anybody.
And if you’re resilient, as we humans naturally are, you’ll become you.
Then nobody will matter to you more than you.
Side note:
They say that becoming you is actually unbecoming who you thought you had to be.
