What if there was a dream factory where all the seasonal workers such as Santa, Jack Frost, Easter Bunny, and maybe even Father Time submitted orders and design requests for certain dreams? Dreams that they would then give to children while they carried out their jobs of delivering gifts, prepping for a fun snow day, hiding eggs, and ringing in the new year.
And the owner of the factory would be Sandman. Different color sand would have different effects, being different types of dreams. The amount of sand would control the duration much like that of a sand filled hourglass measuring time.
Sometimes, Santa would get a defect dream, perhaps one that isn’t long enough, and a child would awaken to catch him nibbling on a cookie.
Anyway, past the children’s section of the factory is the section that isn’t the children’s section of the factory. It’s the section where orders are sent in by a matchmaker god who is linking people with red string, Grandma Samshin who gifts and protects children, and maybe a Goblin that sends a bit of luck your way.
Matchmaker need a series of dreams that guides people to their soulmate. Grandma Samshin needs dreams that signal the gift of new life. Goblin needs… well he doesn’t need dreams to do his work, but he just likes to hang out at the factory.
And so a factory for dreams. Dreams that bring good things.
And then, there is the dream factory for bad things. The good dream factory’s competition. The competition between the two is what shifts the balance between good and bad energy in the world. The bad dream factory is run by Sandman’s twin. [insert dramatic evil music]…
I can’t think of a name. Maybe Sandman is their last name and I give them a first name.
Anyway, at the height of the story, the world is a mess because the factories go into overdrive and dreams flows out into the world chaotically.
Part of the resolution, aside from a possible compromise between the twins, is that Father Time works overtime to reverse time on Earth. In essence, he cleans up the twins’ mess.
The end. Sweet dreams!
